      Violent crime has been decreasing nationally and Danville has also seen considerable decreases in homicide, robbery, and aggravated assaults. Starting in 2014, department-wide directed patrol techniques were implemented. This technique has been successfully used by the Community Police section and on a case-by-case basis by the Patrol Division. By utilizing location and time data on reported crimes, proactive patrols are directed into geographic areas with higher probabilities of crime occurrence. The Department continues to work toward using data to more efficiently direct patrol activities, including using DDACTS - Data-Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety - an operational model developed through a partnership between the Department of Justice and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. (City Council Priority 2.5.2) This technique involves the overlay of crime and traffic crash data to help direct resources to have a proactive impact on traffic safety and crime, since vehicle travel is such an integral component of our mobile society. This process also leverages the deterrence value of highly visible enforcement actions.
